Join us to hear artist Alexander Maris talk about his recent seventeen day journey from Schiehallion to Tobar nah Aois on Iona, followed by a lively discussion and lovely refreshments. Part of the Locating Lorne proejct by Deirdre McKenna.
Alexander and Susan Maris are artists working on a new series of artworks and events which invite people to think about their relationships with the environment and history of west Scotland.
On 01 May, Alexander Maris set out on a journey from the centre of Scotland, Schiehallion. He had chosen to walk the complete journey in order to see it for himself, feel the terrain under his feet and the weather around him, have time to think about it, and to see where the journey led him. As well as being fit and well prepared with the right equipment, the other vital element was chance: rather than Maris commanding nature, he wanted to be led by the route, and in doing so, gain an insight into what makes places what they are.
Join us to find out about what Alexander and Susan Maris will be making and why, what they've learned from the journey, and to hear from some of the people who enabled the journey along it’s seventeen day route...
The event will last around 40 minutes with an introduction from our arts co-ordinator, Rhona Dougall, and Deirdre MacKenna of Locating Lorne/Cultural Documents, followed by Alexander Maris, then a good conversation with all those who would like to join in.
