Join us for our journeys-themed mini-festival, 24th - 26th November.

As part of our Heritage Lottery funded project, we're hosting a weekend of events exploring the movement of people to, from and around our little bay and beyond.

We'll be throwing the doors open to anyone and everyone who wants to come along. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and share you own family stories, or just to enjoy hearing about others.

Oban has long been a transport hub, one end of the West Highland Line and Gateway to the Isles. But why do people come here? Why do they leave? Over our festival weekend we want to meet Obanites old and new and hear the human stories behind these journeys.

>> Let’s Make A Scene Journeys Special // Fri 24 Nov, 8pm-late, Free

Join us for a Journeys to the Little Bay-themed version of our regular Let’s Make A Scene live open mic night. How and why did you or your ancestors end up in Oban? Perform a song, play a piece of music, read aloud a story or poem of your own telling your tale, or simply relax with a glass of wine and some nibbles, meet new people, sit back and enjoy the show.

>> Welcome To Oban! // Sat 25 Nov, 12pm-4pm, Free

Bring all the family along for an open-to-all afternoon of creativity, sharing of stories and making new friends. There will be a large-scale world map for you to mark where you were born or where your ancestors came to Oban from, an interactive kiddies corner with toys and art activities, plenty of space to mingle or find yourself a seat, grab a cuppa and a snack, plus exhibits to look at and a large scale community art project for everyone to contribute to. We would love for you to bring a dish that reminds you of home, or a favourite family recipe for everyone to share. Please get in touch if you would like to contribute!

You will hopefully by now have spotted #WelcomeToOban postcards dotted around Oban. Please fill one in, photograph it with your phone and tweet it to @RockfieldCentre, post it on the Rockfield Centre facebook page, email it to heritage@therockfieldcentre.org.uk, drop it into the huts if you are passing or bring it along with you on the day.

>> Welcome To Oban Blether! // Sun 26 Nov, 12pm-2pm, Free

Stop by for a special weekend version of our popular monthly weekday Blether get-together. Share the story of how you came to live in Oban or where you have travelled from to visit on the day. Help yourself to tea and cake and join in the fun!

Entry to all of the above is free of charge. Your support is invaluable, The Rockfield Centre is here for you, the people of Oban and the community we are all a part of. Get involved!
