In this three-hour long workshop, participants will use a gelatin (gel) plate, with simple tools to produce a series of one-off prints (monotypes), both spontaneous and planned.

By the end of the workshop, participants should feel confident enough to use and experiment with the gel plate printmaking technique in their own environments.

Course Outline
10am-12:30
Introduction to gel plate monoprinting and review of examples
Introduction to equipment, materials and workstation layout

Basic monoprinting techniques
• Paint application – single colour, blends
• Mark-making
• Masking – simple shapes, threads, botanicals

Alice Strange 

Artist Alice Strange lives and works in Oban. She has degrees in electrical engineering, operations research and art history and has been trained by master printmakers in screenprinting, collagraphy and gel plate monoprinting. She has been a member of the Glasgow Print Studio since 2011 and was one of 50 members commissioned to make a print for the “Here and Now” section of “The Love of Print: 50 Years of Glasgow Print Studio” at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow earlier this year.
