Oban Heritage

OBAN HERITAGE - An t’Oban ‘The People and The Place

Our Heritage projects are led by our volunteer Heritage Hunters who look after the growing artefacts, books and photograph collections. The delivery plan for HERITAGE continues to be co produced by our Heritage volunteers who wish to take forward the community desire to keep the heritage of Oban alive by capturing, conserving and sharing the heritage of Oban. This year saw the opening of our Kids Space - Aite na Cloinne - where children and adults can have fun whilst learning more about the growth of OBAN.

The collection and programme has grown extensively, utilising our collections to offer a range of cultural activity including regular exhibitions held in the Silver Birch Gallery and the smaller heritage story sections which can be found in the corridors of the Centre. This year has also seen the opening of space of our “hands on” Kids Space - Àite na Cloinne which shares the story of Oban and enables interaction with the timeline and growth of Oban- including opportunity for children to take control of their own wee ferry and head off to the islands. Our thanks to Heritage Lottery Fund and Calmac for support in delivery of this interactive heritage playspace.

The What’s on page give details of all current events including regular cultural heritage activity such as our heritage blethers, family workshops and for younger member our Young Archaeologists club

Those unable to visit can view some of our resources on line such as Heritage Horizons - Oban Heritage of Colour.; Podcasts, Maps and our Books collection listings.
