Memories Matter - Postwar Childhood: 1945-55

In the summer of 2014, The Rockfield Centre oral history project, Memories Matter: A Time To Tell Our Stories, recorded former pupils who were at school during the postwar period 1945-1955.

They were kind enough to share their stories with us. Here are just a few of them.

We welcomed over 150 people to our final exhibition in November and received very positive feedback. A display from this exhibition will be housed permanently at The Rockfield Centre Community Hut.

Going forward, we will be working with local schools on the Singing Playground project, which will teach songs, rhymes and games collected from our oral history contributors to primary school children in and around Oban today.  We are also working with a local children’s group to pair the Oban Memory Map created as part of our project with a Children’s Map of Oban for the present day.

All the interviews and stories we collected for the project will shortly be made available online via the Argyll & Bute Council Archives web pages.  In the meantime, should you want any information, you can contact the project by emailing heritage@therockfieldcentre.org.uk

This project is funded by a Sharing Heritage grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
