Jake McInnes

Mixed Media Artist and Creative Workshop Leader

I have been creating mixed media art for as long as I can remember and I truly believe that engaging in art-making through creative exploration has the power to transform your life.

Through blending my skills and experience as a tutor, coach, and mixed media artist, I am passionate about providing fun and engaging opportunities for you to explore processes of creating art that can empower you to gain greater confidence in who you are as you explore your creative potential.

A 3-Day Mixed Media Art Retreat for Creative Exploration & Personal Expression

Step away from routine and immerse yourself in three inspiring days of playful experimentation, creative discovery, and hands-on making. Designed for artists of all levels, this mixed media retreat invites you to create a deeply personal art journal whilst exploring layering techniques, bookmaking, and the joy of creative freedom.

Throughout the retreat, participants will experiment with gelli plate printing, expressive mark making, layering techniques, and the transformation of gathered, repurposed, and recycled materials into meaningful works of art. Using texture, colour, paper, paint, textiles and found elements, you’ll build richly layered journal pages that reflect your own creative voice and personal aesthetic.

You’ll also learn a simple bookbinding stitch to assemble your handmade journal, creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake that will continue as a source of inspiration long after the retreat ends.

This retreat is less about perfection and more about process — a space to play, explore, take creative risks, and reconnect with the excitement of making art without rules. Whether you are a practicing artist, a curious beginner, or simply craving time to create, you’ll leave feeling inspired, refreshed, and creatively recharged.

Come gather, layer, print, stitch, and create alongside your supportive tutor in our relaxed and welcoming centre.
